Mindful Nature Walks
Begin by Slowing Down
Walk more slowly than feels natural.
Pause often.
Let your attention settle before moving on.
Invite Your Senses
Rather than looking only for interesting things to see, notice:
- sounds
- textures
- scents
- temperature
- movement
- light
Sometimes closing your eyes for a few moments allows the forest to introduce itself in entirely new ways.
Follow Curiosity
Instead of asking βWhat should I find?β
Ask:
- What catches my attention?
- What has changed since a few minutes ago?
- What surprises me?
Curiosity naturally slows observation.
Carry a Notebook
You donβt need to record everything.
One sentence.
One sketch.
One question.
One sound.
Those small observations often become lasting memories.
Put Technology to Work
Your phone can be a wonderful field tool.
Take a photograph.
Record a birdsong.
Identify a plant.
Then slip it back into your pocket before it asks for your attention instead.
Let Nature Set the Pace
Some walks cover ten kilometres.
Others cover only a few hundred metres.
The distance matters far less than the quality of your attention.
Sometimes the richest discoveries are waiting beside the very first fallen log.
