Our Story
I’ve always had an entrepreneurial bug.
At eleven years old, I started a paper route to earn my own paycheck. When that wasn’t enough, I’d buy an entire box of candy bars from a shop on my route and sell them to other children for a little extra pocket money.
My career in the United States took me through many different roles. Looking back, I realize I was unconsciously gathering tools for a project I didn’t yet know how to build.
When I moved to Belgium, that project began taking shape—but not all at once.
Each version taught me something new. Each refined my understanding of what makes me come alive, how people learn, how communities grow, and how we can create conditions where both people and nature can thrive.

Rather than offering one “right” way to live, Mist Connections encourages people to cultivate the conditions they need to thrive wherever they find themselves.
Whether you’re exploring the Belgian countryside or learning to notice the beauty in your own neighbourhood, my hope is that these pages help you slow down, put down roots, build meaningful connections, and discover a deeper sense of belonging.

🌿 Misty
I’m an ecology educator, proudly polyvalent geek, lifelong naturalist, and incurable collector of interesting questions.
I believe that nature is one of our greatest teachers, and I love helping people slow down, notice more, and build meaningful relationships with the places they call home.
When I’m not exploring woodlands, you’ll probably find me reading, gardening, baking, experimenting with a new craft, or quietly redesigning this website for the twentieth time.
🦊 Lily
Chief explorer, professional question-asker, and enthusiastic reminder that curiosity doesn’t have an age limit. She reminds me to rest when my legs are tired, smell the flowers, and watch caterpillars live their lives instead of simply identifying their species and moving on.
Many of the family activities on Mist Connections are tested, improved, and thoroughly enjoyed with her help.
🐾 Cosmo
Official trail companion, stick inspector, puddle enthusiast, and morale officer.
Her contributions include reminding us to stop overthinking and go outside.
Mist Connections is still growing. Over time, this little team will expand to include collaborators, guest contributors, and members of the wider community who share our vision of helping people put down roots wherever they find themselves.
Looking Ahead
Mist Connections is still growing.
Today, it’s a digital commonplace book crossed with a field guide. Tomorrow, it may also become guided walks, workshops, seasonal gatherings, educational resources, and opportunities for people to learn together in nature.
Beyond that, I carry a longer-term dream.
I’m fascinated by places where people live, learn, and care for one another while respecting the landscapes that sustain them. Historic beguinages, abbeys, ecovillages, tiny home communities, and cooperative models have all inspired different pieces of that vision.
I don’t hope to recreate any one of those places.
Instead, I’m interested in exploring what a modern community might look like if it were built around reciprocity, ecological stewardship, lifelong learning, and helping one another thrive.
Whether Mist Connections remains a website, grows into a cooperative, or one day finds a physical home, I hope it continues creating opportunities for people to reconnect—with nature, with one another, and with the places they call home.
